A new report from search engine Google reveals that Nigerians in 2026 are actively seeking solutions to personal, professional, and entrepreneurial challenges. Beyond making New Year resolutions, Nigerians are using technology to navigate obstacles, acquire new skills, and improve overall well-being.

According to the report, in the first two weeks of January, searches related to self-improvement and “becoming better” surged by 40 percent. From enhancing communication skills to mastering hobbies, Nigerians are turning to search as a problem-solving tool to address everyday personal and professional challenges. The top searches indicate a focus on becoming better partners, listeners, writers, singers, and individuals overall.

Entrepreneurial ambition remains strong. “How to start a business” emerged as the most popular “how to start” search, rising by 80 percent. Other trending searches show a focus on creating digital ventures, including starting blogs, launching podcasts, and opening YouTube channels. These trends underscore Nigerians’ determination to create economic opportunities, build new ventures, and take control of their professional destinies.

Health and wellness are also high on the national agenda. Searches for “how to eat healthy” and “how to meditate” rose by 40 percent, reflecting a growing commitment to physical and mental well-being. Nigerians are actively seeking ways to stay energized, develop positive habits, and manage stress as part of a holistic approach to self-improvement.

Beyond personal and professional growth, Nigerians are focused on mastering skills and hobbies. Searches related to improving English, memory, and communication skills have increased, alongside queries about sports, music, drawing, and even gaming. Whether in the boardroom, classroom, or living room, Nigerians are seeking actionable steps to improve themselves and solve challenges in every area of life.

Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager, West Africa, said: “These trends show that Nigerians are not waiting for opportunities; they are actively solving challenges to grow personally and professionally. Google Search acts as a tool to navigate daily challenges and unlock potential, helping Nigerians take actionable steps toward their goals.”

As 2026 unfolds, this data highlights a nation that is ambitious, solutions-focused, and increasingly reliant on technology to achieve meaningful results in both personal and professional spheres.
