Ex-APC presidential aspirant SKC Ogbonnia joins ADC, urges opposition unity

Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, Chairman of First Texas Corporation and 2019 presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly concluded plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling on opposition parties to unite.

Ogbonnia, a founding member of the APC who supported the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 election, had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the party. He ran against Buhari in the 2019 presidential election after being critical of the APC administration.

Last week, Ogbonnia formally left the APC, citing what he described as dysfunctional governance, failed administration, and foreign military interventions as key reasons for his departure.

He accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government of failing to address critical issues such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, which he said directly impact the future of Nigerians, particularly the youth.

Ogbonnia wrote: “Specifically, the leadership of the party under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has failed to address critical issues like insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, which directly impacts the future of our people and the teeming youths.”

He also alleged that the President has lost influence both domestically and internationally, describing him as a “political leper” among key allies, particularly the United States.

In a notice announcing his move to the ADC, Ogbonnia invited party stalwarts at the national, state, and local government levels to his Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu ward office in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State on Thursday, December 22, 2026.

Ogbonnia said Nigeria is at a critical juncture and emphasized his desire to contribute to building a better future for citizens.

“With your support, we can bring about the change that our country deserves. This declaration marks the beginning of a unified effort to bring forth solutions for the challenges we face and build a prosperous future for all citizens,” he said.

He added that his political activism is driven by a commitment to the emerging generation and the struggle for Nigeria’s future.
