Gifted actress and producer Peju Johnson continues to make her mark in the movie industry with her new film, Complete Me. Known for her sense of style and relatable storytelling, the actress recently spoke with Pot Pourri about the inspiration behind the movie and the challenges she faced during its production.
According to Johnson, Complete Me sheds light on the societal pressure many women in their late 20s and 30s face to get married and have children.
“It’s a story about, you know, a lot of people in their late 20s and 30s — especially women — being pressured to settle down and have kids because they are always told menopause is getting closer, or maybe their parents are getting older and need grandchildren,” she said.
Johnson added that this pressure often drives women into unhealthy relationships in a bid to meet expectations.
“So because of that, they start rushing and jumping into different kinds of bad relationships just to be married and have kids, which is not good. Complete Me is a story that tells this kind of situation,” she explained.
When asked what fans should expect from the movie, the actress said it’s an engaging and heartfelt story that viewers will connect with.
“I’m not sure there’s anything to be taken away from it. It’s a sweet story, and I’m sure they are all going to love it and have one or two things to learn from it,” she noted.
However, the actress admitted that the journey to bringing Complete Me to life was far from easy.
“Oh my God, I faced a lot — I mean a lot of challenges,” she said emotionally. “I just don’t want to start talking about it because I’m going to get emotional right now, so we can just let the question slide.”
