Focus on fifty inspiring leaders of excellence driving Nigeria’s economic growth

Focus on fifty inspiring leaders of excellence driving Nigeria’s economic growth
  1. What inspired your journey into entrepreneurship and leadership?

In the beginning, my primary inspiration was simple and practical making money and
establishing relevance in life. But over time, I realized that inspiration evolves. Once you achieve
financial stability and recognition, your focus naturally shifts. It moves beyond personal success
toward creating value for others, changing lives, and making a lasting impact on the
environment around you. Inspiration, therefore, is not static it is dynamic. It grows and
transforms throughout the journey of every entrepreneur.

  1. Can you share with us what informed the establishment of Vava and how the company has
    fared since its formation?

When we first started, the goal was clear, to establish a retail company that sells furniture in the
Nigerian market. That was our foundation. However, as the company grew, our vision also
evolved through different phases of development. Today, the focus is no longer just on retailing
furniture. Vava has expanded its ambition to include manufacturing, exporting, and offering
complete lifestyle solutions. For example, we now aim to provide fully furnished homes, going
beyond individual furniture pieces to deliver a complete experience. So, the vision that guided
us at the beginning is not the same as the one driving us today. As the company develops, our
goals continue to evolve, reflecting growth, innovation, and a broader impact on the market.

  1. What are the top three core values that define your leadership style?

Integrity, innovation, and excellence/connected leadership. These values guide every decision
we make, from design to customer service.

  1. Can you share a significant business challenge you’ve encountered and how you overcame
    it?

A major challenge has been the high operational cost, cost of logistics and raw materials, which
directly impacts pricing and margins. We addressed this by strengthening local supply chains,
negotiating better supplier terms, and streamlining our operations to ensure efficiency. This has
helped us remain competitive while delivering quality.

  1. In what ways is the company contributing to Nigeria’s economic transformation?
We contribute through direct job creation, training artisans in modern skills, reducing
dependence on imports, and gradually exploring export opportunities to earn foreign exchange.
  2. Can you provide any figures or data that reflect the impact of your business on the
    economy?

Currently, Vava employs over 1,380 staff directly and supports more than 300 artisans,
suppliers, and logistics partners indirectly. We’ve also completed over 2,000 projects across
residential, hospitality, and corporate sectors.

  1. What sets Vava Furniture apart within its industry or market segment?

Our strength lies in combining modern design, offering durability at affordable prices, and
maintaining excellent after-sales service.

  1. How has innovation or technology helped transform your operations and expand your
    reach?

We use digital design tools for precision, adopt automated processes, including the use of AI for
our day-to-day activities in production, finance, and leverage e-commerce platforms and social
media to reach customers nationwide and abroad.

  1. What is your vision for the future of your industry in Nigeria?

I envision an industry shaped not only by innovation and growth but also by charismatic
influence, where leaders inspire trust, set high standards, and drive creativity that others
naturally follow. With the right influence, Nigerian furniture can earn global recognition while
fostering a new generation of designers and entrepreneurs who believe in the value of local
talent.

  1. What policy reforms would you recommend to accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth?

One key reform would be the activation of existing trade deals with other countries. Nigeria has
signed several bilateral and multilateral agreements, but many remain dormant. If fully
activated, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and ECOWAS protocols, they
would unlock export opportunities, attract foreign investment, and allow Nigerian-made
products, from furniture and real estate materials to chemicals and cosmetics, to compete
globally and earn foreign exchange.

  1. How can business leaders collaborate more effectively to foster inclusive and sustainable
    economic development?

Through joint industry associations, shared R&D investments, mentorship of SMEs, and
partnerships that uplift communities beyond profit.

  1. What measures are in place to sustain and improve the company’s internal culture? How
do you attract and retain top talent?

We emphasize teamwork, creativity, and growth opportunities. Regular training, competitive
incentives, and recognition programs help us retain top talent.

  1. How do you ensure consistent value delivery across different client engagements? Could
you share a recent success story?

We ensure consistency through strict quality checks at every stage of production, backed by the
Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) certification that attests to the quality of our products.

In addition, our great reviews and high ratings across social media platforms serve as continuous
proof of customer satisfaction. A recent highlight was when our furniture and real estate teams
collaborated on a housing project delivered ahead of schedule, with both the client’s feedback
and online reviews confirming our commitment to excellence.

  1. How is the company leveraging technology to improve its services or operations?

We leverage technology in multiple ways, using ERP systems for efficiency, 3D visualization tools
to help clients see their designs before production, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to better
understand customer preferences, forecast demand, and optimize supply chains. In addition,

our cosmetics and chemical lines rely on advanced formulations that meet global standards.
These innovations allow us to deliver smarter, faster, and more personalized solutions across all
our businesses.

  1. What strategies are in place to ensure the company stays ahead in a rapidly evolving
    digital landscape?

Our strategy is rooted in continuous innovation and diversification across all our businesses. For
instance, Vava Project, our building and construction real estate arm, leverages Building
Information Modelling (BIM) and digital project management tools to ensure precision,
efficiency, and transparency. Beesline, our cosmetics company, uses e-commerce platforms,
social media engagement, and AI-driven customer insights to reach new markets and anticipate
beauty trends. Meanwhile, Mineral Chemical integrates digital supply chain systems and smart
analytics to optimize production and ensure product quality.

  1. What role does diversity, equity, and inclusion play in your leadership approach and
    company policies?

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to how we lead and operate. We believe every
individual, regardless of background, should have equal access to opportunities and growth
within our companies. Beyond inclusion, we actively promote equity by ensuring fair treatment,
tailored support, and resources that help every team member thrive.

Our approach is rooted in connected leadership, where we remain approachable, empathetic,
and deeply engaged with our employees’ aspirations and challenges. This not only builds a
culture of trust and belonging but also drives innovation and creativity across Vava furniture,
Vava projects, Beesline, Mineral Chemical, and all our ventures.

  1. How does Vava Furniture integrate sustainability or corporate social responsibility into its
    business practices?

Our corporate social responsibility goes beyond business; it is about impacting lives. We actively
invest in community projects, from providing support for widows and children to giving out
palliatives in impoverished areas. Currently, we are drilling a borehole in Port Harcourt to
provide access to clean water for the community.

By making CSR a core part of our identity, we ensure that our growth also translates into
meaningful improvements in the lives of the people around us.

  1. Since the founding of Vava Furniture, what has been the most significant challenge you’ve
faced, and how did you overcome it?

Building trust in a competitive market was tough. We overcame it by staying consistent in
quality, fulfilling promises, and building long-term client relationships.

  1. What are the future projections, and what in your view is the future of interior designs in
Nigeria and Africa as a whole?

Clients are increasingly demanding smart, space-efficient, and stylish designs that reflect global
standards. Our focus is on creating interiors that combine contemporary aesthetics with
practicality, while embracing innovations such as smart home technology, modular furniture,
and eco-friendly materials.

We believe the industry is moving towards a future where interior design is not just about
beauty, but about efficiency, comfort, and long-term value.

that create both profit and impact.
