Jalingo – The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided free eye treatment to 1,087 residents of Sardauna Local Government Area in Taraba State, addressing various eye-related illnesses.
As part of the initiative, 120 patients underwent surgical procedures for cataract and pterygium, in collaboration with the Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the health outreach, NEDC official Ali Tonga reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving healthcare access across the region.
“Good vision is essential for productivity and quality of life,” Tonga stated. “Through this collaboration with Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, we have restored hope to many who previously had no access to proper eye care.”
Similarly, Prof. Olukorede Adenuga, Director of Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, expressed the foundation’s dedication to sustainable eye care services across the North East.
“We have witnessed firsthand the impact of this outreach. Many people who have struggled with impaired vision for years can now see clearly, and this is life-changing for them and their families,” he said.
During the three-day medical outreach, beneficiaries received:
Comprehensive eye screenings
Free prescription glasses
Eye medications
Surgical interventions for cataract and pterygium
This initiative marks another step in the NEDC’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life for residents in the North East.
