Oil Theft: Fajoye flays attempts to downplay Tantita’s achievements

By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo

A Niger Delta youth leader, Comrade Gbenga Fajoye, has defended the achievements of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in combating oil theft and boosting Nigeria’s oil production quota.

Fajoye, who serves as the Chairman of the Unemployed Youths Association of Nigeria (UYAN), Delta State Chapter, expressed dismay over recent criticism, including a petition alleging false claims about Nigeria achieving two million barrels per day in crude oil production.

In a statement, Fajoye emphasized that no sincere Nigerian or true son of the Niger Delta would support such baseless accusations. He praised Tantita Security Services for its people-centric approach to securing oil installations and pipelines, noting that the company has also brought peace to the once-volatile waterways and creeks in the region.

Fajoye highlighted Tantita’s efforts to combat oil theft, including:

Incident Detection: Between August 2022 and November 2024, the company uncovered 3,963 cases of oil theft, including:

702 illegal connection points.

971 theft incidents.

1,784 illegal refineries.

Facility Destruction: Tantita destroyed 3,063 illegal facilities involved in oil theft.

Equipment and Vessel Seizures

Tantita also apprehended equipment and vessels linked to illegal activities, including:

Eight vessels, three tugboats, six barges, and 47 speed boats.

117 vehicles, 52 tanker trucks, seven motorcycles/tricycles, and 1,743 wooden boats.

Collaboration with Security Agencies

The company has partnered with various government and security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, Civil Defence, and the Department of State Security Services, to ensure the security of oil installations and improve regional safety.

Fajoye noted Tantita’s use of advanced technology, such as drones, sensors, and satellite imagery, for real-time monitoring of oil installations. This has enhanced its ability to detect illegal activities and protect national assets.

According to Fajoye, Tantita’s operations have contributed to a 79% reduction in crude oil losses, a testament to its effectiveness in combating oil theft and improving Nigeria’s oil production capacity.

He concluded by commending Tantita Security Services for its unwavering commitment to the Niger Delta region and the country’s economic well-being.
