PORT HARCOURT: The Chairmen Forum of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has dismissed reports of crisis within the party’s structure, saying it remained united and peaceful.
The chairmen of the party in South-South geopolitical zone disclosed this in a statement after a meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday.
The statement was signed by Elder Inemisit Akpan, state chairman, Akwa-Ibom State; chairman of state chairmen, NNPP, Nigeria, Dr. Joel Tubonimi; state chairman, Bayelsa State and Coordinator, South-South zone chairmen, Barr. Anthony Ogboriku Odeh; state chairman, Cross River State; Fred Ikponmwosa, state chairman, Edo State; Godson Green, state chairman, Rivers State; and Rex Ogboru, state chairman, Delta State.
The Forum insisted that the reports of crisis in the party were antics of enemies of the party to create unrealistic tension, adding that NNPP remained united under the chairmanship of Dr. Ajuji Ahmed; and it’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The statement read: read: “We categorically affirm that there is no crisis within the Party and the aforementioned individuals – Dr. Bonfiace Okechukwu Aniebonam, Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major, Mr. Oginni Olaposi and their associates are not recognized members of NNPP.
“These individuals were duly suspended and expelled from the Party due to various offenses and therefore, lack any standing to claim membership or to represent themselves as officers of NNPP.”
“We want to unequivocally state that there is no factions within the New Nigeria People’s Party. Our organizational Structure remains intact with our dedicated National Officers, which include Dr. Ajuji Ahmed as the National Chairman, Prince Onu Nwaeze as the Deputy National Chairman, Mr. Dipo Olayoku as the National Secretary, and Barr. Ladipo Johnson as the National Publicity Secretary, along other members of the National Working Committee, NWC.”
They extended their gratitude to the 36 state chairmen, including that of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, for their unwavering dedication to the party, and strong support for Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State; Jibail Falgore, speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and all elected members in Kano and National Assemblies.
The Forum noted that it remained united and committed to the principles and goals of the party, frowning at the continuous erroneous references to Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Dr. Agbo Major, and their associates as leaders of the party.
“We want Nigerians to know that these distractions by our former members are part of mischievous plots by some agents in the polity to destabilize our party as it’s happening in some other opposition political parties.
“We wish to state emphatically that these attempts will continue to fail as NNPP continues to wax strong and remaibn an indivisible party in Nigeria. And this will be clearly seen in the next general elections in 2027. “
