The Cross River State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has adopted five strategic resolutions aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the State Secretary of the party, Hon. Ekup Arong, following the State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Calabar.
According to the statement, the meeting, presided over by the State Chairman, Mr Akpama Goddie Achibong, was attended by 19 members of the 43-member committee, constituting the required quorum under Article 15, Section 3 of the party’s constitution.
Also in attendance were the Deputy State Chairman, Prince Henry Obok, members of the State Executive, ex officio members, and the party’s three state vice chairmen.
Among the resolutions, the SWC approved the immediate opening of a state party account “to ensure transparent and accountable management of party finances in line with the party’s constitution.”
The committee also approved the registration and integration of support groups for the 2027 campaigns, the creation of official email addresses and verified social media platforms for the state chapter.
While also appointing state-wide coordinators for polling unit structures across the state’s 196 wards to deepen grassroots mobilisation.
The SWC further passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the Achibong-led leadership, citing its commitment to unity, discipline and progressive leadership.
Speaking after the meeting, Achibong thanked members for their commitment to the party.
“I appreciate every member for standing firm with this leadership. We will continue to run an inclusive, transparent and constitutionally guided administration,” he said,
He urged members to begin mobilisation in their respective local government areas and wards.
On his part, the Deputy State Chairman, Prince Henry Obok, described the resolutions as evidence of the party’s preparedness for the polls.
“These resolutions show clearly that our party is ready for 2027,” he said.
The State Secretary, Arong, said work on implementing the resolutions would begin without delay.
“Implementation starts immediately, and another SWC meeting will hold in the coming weeks to review progress,” he said.
The statement added that the committee reaffirmed its loyalty to the National Executive Committee of the NDC and pledged the Cross River State chapter’s support for the party’s vision and ideals ahead of the 2027 general elections.
