Breaking: Voters troop out en mass for Ekiti election

Ekiti election : VOTERS in the Ekiti governorship election trooped out en mass in Ado Ekiti and Ikere Saturday.

INEC said that only 630,000 of the 913,334 total registers voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards for the Ekiti election.

The political parties will source for votes across the 177 wards and 2,195 polling units cross the state.

As early as 730am the voting centres were besieged by the voters who waited for INEC officials.

The major streets of the two towns remained deserted as voters moved to their respective voting centres for the Ekiti election.

Accreditation for the Ekiti election started in major centre at exactly 8am.

Security operatives were stationed at strategic places in the major towns.

The Ekiti election is talking place in 16 council areas of the state

Ekiti State is divided into three senatorial districts which include Ekiti North, Ekiti Central and Ekiti South.

Both the North and Central senatorial districts have five local government areas each while the South has six council areas.

The local government areas in Ekiti North are Moba (11 wards); Ido/Osi, (11 wards); Ilejemeje (10 wards); Oye (12 wards); and Ikole (12 wards).

34 candidates are jostling for 667,270 votes in todays election.

In Ekiti Central, there are Ado (13 wards;, Irepodun/Ifelodun (11 wards); Ekiti West (11 wards); Ijero (12 wards); and Efon (10 wards).

Ekiti South is made up of Ekiti South West (11 wards); Ikere (11 wards); Ise/Orun (10 wards); Emure (10 wards); Gbonyin (10 wards); and Ekiti East (12 wards).
