Super Eagles first choice keeper, Carl Ikeme said all was not lost for the national team, following their 2-0 loss to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 qualifiers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Ikeme missed the match due to injuries, but according to him the team still have other matches to play in the group and as such the Super Eagles are capable of making a comeback and qualify for the tournament, which they have missed twice in a row. He said he was gradually getting back to form and looking forward to having an injury free season.

“There are still plenty of games to play to qualify for the Cup of Nations. So we are still confident that we will qualify. We have a good team and a good coach as well, so I’m sure we will be okay,” Ikeme told thenff.com

“We didn’t qualify for the last one, so our focus would be on that. It will require hard work and staying together as a group. We are confident that we will still qualify.

He said it was regretful missing the last game against South Africa, adding that he will be fully fit for the Super Eagles clash against Cameroon in the make or mar World Cup qualification matches in August and September respectively.

“Cameroon are a top side you know. It’s not going to be easy. They have played a lot together recently. They were in the Confederations Cup but we are confident going into the games. Like I said, it’s not going to be easy.”
