AHEAD of the fourth quadrennial national delegates conference, NDC, of the Maritime Workers of Nigeria, MWUN, President-General of the Union, Anthony Emmanuel Nted, has raised the alarm that some disgruntled elements have been spreading malicious information against his person.

The NDC is scheduled for March 17 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. At a briefing in Lagos, Nted claimed that some disgruntled elements and non-card-carrying members of the union had been spreading malicious insinuations about the union and its leadership.

According to him: “It has been brought to the notice of the union and its leadership that some disgruntled elements and non-card carrying members have been spreading malicious,  fabricated, libellous and unfounded insinuations about the union and its leadership. The aim of these disgruntled elements is to create an impression of crisis in the union where there is none.

“The union recognizes every card-carrying member’s right, freedom of speech and association as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The same constitution provides the avenue for redress when the rights of individuals/organizations are infringed upon.

“In view of the above, the union is not taking lightly the malicious, libelous petitions and publications by these disgruntled elements and their agents especially by Maritime Management Services (MMS) of  January 23, 2017. To serve as a deterrent, whilst the president general has taken legal steps to seek redress, the union will also do the same.”
