Nigeria Professional Football League side, Rivers United continued their awesome pre-season form as they beat the Villarreal B team side by a lone goal on Wednesday in a friendly game.

Guy Kuemian’s solitary strike in the 24th minute was enough to give the “Pride of Rivers” a morale booster.

Rivers United last Sunday emerged champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super 4 in Enugu.

The competition featured three other football clubs that will represent Nigeria in CAF club competitions in 2017; Enugu Rangers, Wikki Tourists and FC Ifeanyiubah (FCIU).

Rivers United finished the competition with six points from three matches, one point more than Enugu Rangers who finished in second place.

Aside Wednesday’s game, while in Madrid, the club is expected to face a La Liga club in a tune up game while proposed friendly matches have already been lined up against Segunda B clubs, Levante Union Deportiva II and Club Deportivo Alcoyano.

The  squad will also attend training sessions of a La Liga club (as well as the sessions of the youth teams of the club).

A guided tour to the storied home of reigning European champions, Real Madrid, the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu has also been lined up.

The technical crew led by manager, Stanley Eguma is also expected to be huge beneficiaries of the programme as a crash course on coaching methodology has already been arranged with the La Liga club.
