Abeokuta—Barely 36 days after the Ogun State Government sanctioned 35 of its workers for allegedly breaching civil service rules during the celebration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day held on October 5, it has recalled 12 out of the 16 leaders of the state chapters of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and Nigeria Labour Congress.

The government also pardoned 19 other teachers who were suspended for their roles during the same celebration.

The Head of Service, Sola Adeyemi disclosed this in a statement made available to Vanguard yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The recalled workers were directed to resume in their offices with effect from January 2, 2017.

Those who were pardoned had been directed to resume at their duty posts since Thursday 1st December, 2016.

However, the state chairmen of the NLC, Akeem Ambali and NUT, Dare Ilekoya and two others who were also dismissed were yet to get any reprieve, as their cases were “undergoing evaluation.”

Adeyemi said the affected workers were recalled following interventions by the national and local leaderships of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, elders and well-meaning personalities.

The Head of Service, however said the cases of the remaining four dismissed workers, which include the state chairman of the NLC, Akeem Ambali, the state chairman NUT,  Dare Ilekoya, Eniola Atiku and Nola Balogun, were still undergoing evaluation.

Adeyemi explained that government would come out with a position upon conclusion of their cases, in due course.
