Awka—Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Josephat Akabuike, said, yesterday, that workers in the state will be screened of diabetes and hypertension, adding that of the 420 million cases of diabetes recorded worldwide, about 1.5 million were Nigerians.
He said the screening would commence as soon as the necessary logistics were put in place.
He spoke in Awka as part of activities to mark this year’s World Diabetes Day. Akabuike noted that government had created a non-communicable disease unit in the Ministry of Health, which oversees diabetes and other related ailments, adding that the unit had been undertaking periodic screening of diabetes.
