Delta police arrest 6 over body in shallow grave

ASABA—Police in Delta State have arrested six persons in connection with the killing of one Mr. Onwelagu Ochonogor, and burying him in a shallow grave.

The event followed a communal crisis between Umuaja and Obeti communities in Ukwani Local Government Area, Delta State.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who made the disclosure, said the 47-year-old Ochonogor, an indigene of Obeti community, was reported missing on October 24.

According to the commissioner: “Information later revealed that the missing person was killed and buried in a shallow grave opposite a shrine at Umuaja.

“Consequently, a combined team of policemen and JTF visited the site and observed a human toe sticking out.”

He said the corpse had been exhumed, examined by a pathologist and deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Obiaruku, while six suspects had been arrested “in connection with the dastardly act.”

Ibrahim said the case was under investigation.

Meanwhile, the police in the command has recued the kidnapped lecturer of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor G. C. Igborgbo.
