Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is carrying out far-reaching reforms in Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) aimed at improving the standard of education in the state primary school system.

While most states are unable to pay salaries of their workers, not to talk of embarking on capital projects, Ugwuanyi, apart from regular payment of workers’ salaries and execution of capital projects, has embarked on the process of recruiting 2,000 primary school teachers in the state.

The recruitment, being conducted by the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, according to its Executive Chairman, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, is based on merit.  He added that  the governor was committed to “the core values of discipline, merit, transparency and accountability” in the exercise and is poised to train the teachers after the recruitment for quality output.

The Board Chairman noted that the governor had sacrificed a lot to initiate the reforms, having discovered decay in the school system, which include lack of qualified teachers and infrastructure.

“Right now, construction works are ongoing in three hundred and forty-five primary schools in the seventeen local government areas of the state. The achievements of  ENSUBEB under Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration are unprecedented and we want to assure the people that before the end of the year, there would be tremendous changes in our schools”, Asogwa said.
