Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, yesterday said his representative’s comment on the attitude of Nigerians towards officers of the Nigerian police was not based on the recent attack of Lagos and Ogun communities by some gunmen.

Owoseni in a telephone conversation with Vanguard, said his representative, CSP Olusegun Ajamolaya, the Divisional Police Officer of Victoria Island, comment at the 2016 Stakeholders Forum on Central Business Districts, CBD, held at the City Hall, Lagos, themed: “Toward a Lagos Island CBD Renaissance: Meaningful Insights and Commitment,” was unconnected with the recent inhuman act in Ikorodu.
He noted that he was never referring to the attack in Lagos and Ogun communities that occurred recently; rather he was referring to the general attitude of the citizens towards officers of the Nigerian Police, in divulging information that would aid their investigation.
He argued that the Nigerian police will always work with citizens to ensure that they are often protected in the state.
Lagosians have faith in police
Explaining further, the police boss expressed shock over statement credited to him that Nigerians had lost trust and confidence in the Police, describing it as a misrepresentation of facts.
Rather, the command boss said that the confidence and trust Nigerians in general and Lagosians in particular have in the Police had helped the Police in the fight against crime and criminality.
He said; “How can you quote me to have said that Nigerians have lost faith in the police, when actually the partnership of members of the public has helped the command a great deal.”
