ABUJA—Leaders of   Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will meet with the embattled former Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, today to find an amicable solution to the leadership crisis in the party. Leaders of the party that are expected to meet with the former chairman of the party are the PDP Governors’ Forum,   National Assembly Caucus and Board of Trustees, BoT.

The caretaker committee chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi, is also expected to be be at the meeting which will be held at Ondo governor’s lodge. The Director-General of PDP Governors’ Forum, Osaro Onaiwu, who disclosed this yesterday, said the one item agenda for the meeting was the resolution of the leadership crisis in the party.

He said:  “The leaders of the party, the Governors’ Forum, National Assembly Caucus, BoT, Makarfi group and Sheriff group will meet tomorrow (today) to address the issue in the party. ‘’We want to resolve the crisis in the party once and for all. We want to find lasting solution to the party. All parties involved are invited for this meeting. The forthcoming Edo election will also be addressed.”

It would be recalled that the three-man committee, led by the deputy president of the senate, Ike Ekweremadu, had earlier scheduled a meeting with Senator Sheriff last week to persuade him to accept the decision of the party at the convention held in Port Harcourt which dissolved the national working committee of the party.

Senator Sheriff had challenged the decision of the party at the convention, insisting that he was still the chairman of the party.

His claim to the leadership of the party forced the police to seal the national secretariat of the party for about nine days before some workers of the party were granted limited access into the secretariat at the intervention of the Board of Trustees of the party.
