The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has said the capital market remained key to providing solutions to the nation’s current financial problems. She spoke at a meeting with the Capital Market Master Plan Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission, in Abuja, yesterday.

Her words: “Many of the financial solutions to the nation’s problems are in the capital market. We need to leverage it; we need to harness it; we need to grow it.

“If you look at it, every country that has grown economically, there has been depth in the capital market. “So if we want to have real parameter of our growth, one of the matrix and key parameter of that growth must be the depth of the capital market.

“Of course, you know we are running a deficit budget, we only come to borrow using bonds in the capital market, that is one thing. “There is element of need for the capital market across the globe for infrastructure financing, development of the SMEs sector, where I think we need to provide physical incentive to drive our family businesses.”
