BAUCHI—ANGRY teachers across the 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State, yesterday, stormed the state Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, protesting eight months unpaid salaries and other benefits.

The teachers, who stormed the SUBEB’s office on Ran road early in the morning displaying placards with various inscriptions and demanding payment of their entitlements, disrupted operations at SUBEB while it lasted.

They later proceeded to the palace of the Emir of Bauchi Dr Rilwanu Adamu to register their grievance where they appealed to the traditional ruler to intervene in their matter.

The Emir, while sympathizing with them, commended them for their maturity in handling their grievances, assured that he would appeal to the relevant authorities over their plight.

The leader of the protesting teachers, Mohammed Auwal, who spoke to journalists, said they were employed in March 2015 and deployed to all the 20 councils to teach, “but due to selfishness or carelessness of some people we have not been paid since October till date.

”We have passed through different stages of verification. We have been verified more than five times but nothing has been done about our salaries. We want the government to sit down and look at these issues and help us because we are more than four hundred in number.”
