Oil Vandalism, Herdsmen Attacks: DHQ warns mischief makers

Following renewed militants' attacks on oil facilities and herdsmen attacks on innocent citizens, the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, yesterday reiterated its warning to Nigerians that it would not condone unwholesome acts capable of causing a break down of law and order in any part of the country.

Decline in external reserves weakens Naira in future market

The Naira weakened in the foreign exchange forwards market due to declining confidence triggered by persistent decline in the nation’s external reserve. The forwards market is for foreign exchange transactions to be delivered at agreed dates in the future. Last week the external reserves dropped by $104 million from $27.12 billion on April 29th to $26.919 billion on Thursday may 5th. Cumulatively the external reserve has fell by $2.15 billion from $26.92 billion at the beginning of the year.

CBN bans discriminatory e-payment services

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has banned all forms of discriminatory practices in the provision of electronic payment service. This was one of the highlights of two revised guidelines relating to e-payment services issued by the apex bank on Friday. The guidelines are: Guidelines on Transactions Switching in Nigeria; and Guidelines on Operations of Electronic Payment Channels in Nigeria.

NB pays FG N16bn tax , creates 4,000 jobs

Nigeria Breweries Plc has disclosed that despite tough operating environment, it paid N16 billion as tax to the Federal Government for the financial year 2015 and also created 4,000 direct jobs. It further disclosed that the beer industry in the country grew by one percent in 2015, while beer consumption per person stood at 11 liters. Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde, Managing Director/CEO, disclosed this during the company’s Pre-AGM Media briefing held in Lagos last weekend.

Export rubber, cocoa, palm oil to us, EU tells Nigeria?

Last week Wednesday, the European Union (EU) was quoted as asking Nigeria government to increase export of agricultural produces like rubber, cocoa and palm oil to the EU countries. The Head of EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr Michel Arrion, said this at a press conference on commemorate the 40 years of EU-Nigeria partnership in Abuja. Arrion said there were potential exports, which Nigeria could develop in commercial quantities, lamenting that such exports to the EU were currently in low quantities.
