BENIN—WORRIED by the hate campaigns of governorship aspirants on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against each other, past PDP political office holders from Edo Central senatorial district have appealed to the aspirants to stop forthwith the campaign of calumny, character assassination and cannibalism in the overall interest of the party.

The group in a communiqué, yesterday, at the end of their meeting in Irrua, the administrative headquarters of Esan Central Local Government Area of the state, also urged the aspirants to stop maligning each other, either by themselves, their agents or supporters, adding that they should uphold their pledges to their leaders and party faithful to work and support the eventual candidate that will emerge from the party’s primaries.

The communique by its Chairman, Mr. Friday Itulah and Mr. Zuberious Edeoghon, Secretary, however, resolved that they will not hesitate to exercise their inalienable right as a people to support any aspirant of their choice with the capacity to match words with actions in the task of restoring PDP to power come November 2016.

The communique said, “We are of the opinion that the deliberate marginalisation and neglect of Edo Central senatorial district by the current All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration of Adams Oshiomhole is regrettable and condemnable.

“The Edo Central people are politically informed, economically endowed, sufficiently and educationally advanced to successfully pursue, achieve, defend and protect any political project that seeks to advance and acknowledge the socio-economic, political and developmental needs of the Esan people.

“Therefore, we have decided to work for any candidate who has the political and administrative prowess to right the wrong that was done to Esan people by the current APC-led administration in Edo State.”

“Consequently, we the body of past political office holders in Edo Central Senatorial District hereby acknowledged and appreciate all aspirants on the platform of the PDP for their zeal, commitment, dedication and pledge to work in harmony with whoever emerge as Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the September, 2016.”

While appreciating the roles of the leadership of the PDP, the group promised that it shall in unity work assiduously to ensure victory for the party in the next governorship election.
