PORT HARCOURT— PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP, has  challenged  the disqualification of its candidate   for Akuku Toru constituency 2, Mr Tonye Alalibo,  saying that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, lacks the powers to disqualify a candidate.

Rivers State Chairman of the party,  Mr Felix Obua, who spoke through his media aide, Mr Jerry Needam, yesterday,  said that the election petitions tribunal and the Appeal Tribunal also do not have powers to disqualify candidates for elections, when such an issue was not part of petitions brought before them.

Obuah who lauded the victory of his party in results of the re-run elections so far released,  said his party’s candidate won in Akuku Toru Constituency 2.

According to him, the party participated in the elections because its logo was on the ballot paper and it was voted for.
