Confusion trails Wike’s birthday
BY JIMITOTA ONOYUME
PORT HARCOURT: As expected advertising agencies that hit one of the Facebook accounts of governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state went to work for the whole of last week sending out letters to government ministries, local government Chairmen and contractors urging them to place goodwill messages in newspapers congratulating the governor on his supposed birthday today, August 24.
Some contractors and admirers of the governor had already complied, sent their advert text to,media houses, waiting to be published today in several papers. But suddenly, there was confusion in the air. News started going round that the Facebook account which announced August 24,1967 as the governor’s date of birth was misinforming.
When this Correspondent met with the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, Mr Opunabo Nko-Tariah for clarification on the issue he said he was not sure of the August 24 date as the governor’s birthday. This was corroborated by the Commissioner of Housing , Mr Emma Okah in a text message to our Correspondent “It is not true that the governor was born on August 24”, his text read.
Meantime, there is another Facebook account still on the governor showing that he was born March 12, 1964.
Wikipedia gave August 24,1964 as the governor’s date of birth.
Governor Wike had told some media men at an informal session in Government House, Port Harcourt, recently that he does not operate a Facebook account.
It is hoped that a formal profile will be released for the public soon to lay to rest this confusion.
