At a time when the pride of  pure maidenhood  which is fast becoming obsolete,  a non-governmental organisation Virginpride is organising a program to prove and showcase that maidenhood is expected to be a period of grooming girls into a desirable women.

According to the organiser of the event, Nkechi Odebiyi, the program is a prove that, virginity is still as sacred as it was intended to be, irrespective of the lies and manipulative tendencies of  some unrealistic men folk who went about telling innocent girls  that virginity is primitive and that no man will want to marry a virginity; a big heresy, from those who just want to satisfy their burning uncountable sexual urges.

This celebration is a simple act of consolidating the fact that, the sacredness of a maiden is in her sexual purity, and for the ability    these girls to maintain that, in a society that has no regard for virgins, is    a show of strong character on her path.

Odebiyi noted that “We celebrate them for swimming against the moral tide and remaining pure,      it really calls for celebration, to encourage the girls to keep onto their decision      till they say I do.

The beauty of this celebration is that, the maidens come with their parents to the celebration; it is evidence that it is a family joy and pride. it goes a long way to encourage the girls to hold on to their decisions to remain sexually pure till they get married. For those of them in the university, anytime there is sexual pressure on them,  they remember that they have vowed before parents and friends,  it  helps them to remain strong.

Their commitment cards contain their watch word. “I will not do until I say I do” I also encourage parents to encourage their girls to be part of these purity activities. What we hope to achieve with this celebration is to, first keep on reminding our young virgins that they are precious before God, that they are the ones really correct as  against what their friends are saying.

The program which will hold on August, 22, at Chevron Recreational centre, Gbagada Lagos, according to organisers will exposes our girls to the realities and dangers of premarital activities.
