IN line with sustenance of the environment, through cleanliness, Retink Media recently launched a three- week campaign on environment advocacy tagged: WeSeparateWaste, to educate secondary school students on the importance of proper waste management and its uses for economic gain.
The campaign which kicked off at Eric Moore Senior Secondary School, saw the organisers donate three waste bins to the school.
Mr Stanley Uzoma, a representative of Wecyclers, and one of the sponsors of the event said students will gain more through the campaign when they gather waste for recyclers who in turn give them gifts that range from diva pad, phones, to sewing machines among other items, including cash equivalent to their efforts.
In other words, students are awarded for keeping their environment clean, in addition to other benefits they get from the environment.
Throwing light on the initiative, Uzoma said students are advised on how to gather different categories of waste, assemble them based on their categories – paper, can and nylon – which recyclers collect for industrial purposes.
Expressing joy over the initiative, the Principal of the school, Mr David Coker said the initiative is good and timely as it will make students health-conscious by way of proper waste management; and at the same time provide them with source income.
