Tragedy struck yesterday in Lagos as a sudden explosion at Golden Penny Flour Mill, Eric Moore Road, Surulere, left two people dead.

It was learned that the incident occurred when one of the company’s boilers suddenly exploded and killed a 35-year-old staff, identified as Mr. Folorunsho Odunayo.

Vanguard gathered that three other unidentified persons, who sustained injuries in the explosion, were immediately taken to hospital.
Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, who confirmed the incident, said: “We received a distress call at about 10:55a.m. and quickly dispatched our men. The fire men from Sari-Iganmu, who were immediately deployed to the scene, met the man lying face down. There was no trace of fire from the scene.

“We were told that one of the boilers in the factory exploded. Probably the boiler might have generated excessive heat before it exploded. We have handed over the corpse to the police from Apapa, while further investigation is ongoing.”
