LAGOS—The Head, Department of Building, at the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Prof. Godwin Idoro, has said that there is the urgent need for Nigerians to imbibe energy-saving practices to make up for productivity losses arising from incessant power outage in the country.

Idoro disclosed this to Vanguard recently.

According to him: “For several years now the nation has been facing several challenges on power generation transmission distribution. The existing power plants are grossly inadequate to generate the electricity need of the nation, the electricity generation known to vary between 32-75% of the installed capacity of existing    power plant while the distribution loses are known to be about 28% of electricity generated. The result is obvious-incessant power outage which has almost paralyzed the nation’s social and economic activities.”

Idoro said that the power situation in the country led to the decision of his department to organise a public lecture titled: “Energy Efficient And Healthy Buildings; Emerging HAVAC    Technologies For Hot And Humid Climates.”
