‘Amnesty programme not endangered’

The National President of National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agita-tors, NCNDE-A, ‘General’ Israel Akpo-doro, has condemned the assumption by a section of ex-militants in the Niger Delta region that the incoming administration of President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), would scrap the Amnesty Programme of the Federal Government.

While saying such fear was misplaced, Akpodoro noted that the fear that the programme would be scrapped by the incoming All Progressives Congress, APC-led government was created by those who do not want change in the country.

He said those planting such seeds wanted to cause anarchy and distort history, since the Amnesty Programme was not initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan, but by late President Umar Yar’Adua, who wanted genuine and purpose-driven re-integration of the then freedom fighters into the society.
