The US government has declared strong commitment to ensuring that Nigerian women are supported in their efforts to growing and maintaining entrepreneurship principles.

The declaration came following the need for Nigerian women to break the typical entrepreneurial mold, and come up with new and better ideas.

Speaking at a recent entrepreneurship workshop at the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the US Consulate, the US Public Diplomacy Officer, Rhonda Watson urged Nigerian women to keep looking for a much wider value to their businesses.

She said that entrepreneurship is a necessary ingredient to stimulating economic growth and employment opportunities in every society, stressing that the US government is fully committed to assisting Nigerian women in the pursuit for a better Nigerian economy.

“You should always search for transformation and quickly respond to it, for fact that transformation has proven to be one of the crucial attributes to a better entrepreneurship approach.

A good number of you can begin with either doing home improvement projects and or pairing/partnering to actualize a vision.

Although it can be difficult for a prospective entrepreneur to determine what products or services to provide, one vital point is the willingness to want to push harder and further”, Rhonda added

Also addressing participants, the President Inspiring Girls Now in Technology Evolution (IGNITE), Chichi Okafor, said that women should overlook the misconception that entrepreneurs are traditionally men. Saying the age long perception, statistically, is becoming less true.

According to the IGNITE President, “I am optimistic from my point of view, that the more women can do to elevate other female entrepreneurs, the better off women will become.”

She also pointed out that the workshop is necessary to providing prospective Nigerian entrepreneurs mentors and tools expected to actualize their business ideas.

“It is important to identify areas of shortcomings and develop avenues to surmounting them, thereby accomplishing successful entrepreneurship vision”, she said, adding that “although there is no definitive profile on what makes one an entrepreneur, it is worthy of note that successful entrepreneurs could emerge from various walks of life, age, gender and race.”

She therefore urged women to endeavor in efforts towards actualizing the entrepreneurship dreams, stressing that determination is extremely necessary.
