THREE illustrious sons of Ondo State came to the aid of the Nigeria Police following the high crime rate across the state.
Senator Boluwaji Kunlere blazed the trail when he donated 13 police patrol vehicles to the state police authorities to combat crime in the southern area of the state before, during and after the general elections.
Barely a month later, the founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor T B Joshua, donated another nine patrol vehicles to combat crime in the northern area of the state.
Last week, another philanthropist, Chief Gbenga Amudipe, from the central senatorial area of the state, donated a police station following appeal from the residents of Ifelodun community in Wesco Estate in Akure South local government area of the state.
The donations were lauded by the state Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, who described the gesture as one that will motivate his men..
Kunlere said the vehicles will help to checkmate the activities of kidnappers which have been on the increase in the southern senatorial district which he represents.
Joshua said he responded to the cries of the people in the northern area of the state after hoodlums raided five banks and killed 21 innocent people in Ikare Akoko.
The cleric, who was represented by Mr. Mayowa Oluwayomi, also pledged to fast track the installation of communication gadget across police divisions in Akoko land to connect the area directly with the Police Command Headquarters in Akure,the state capital.
Speaking during the donation of the police station by Amudipe, residents of Ifelodun community commended the gesture.
The Chairman of the WESCO Estate Landlords Association, Olumide Atenidegbe, said the police station will reduce the rate of crime in the community and environs.
The donor said the urge to develop his immediate environment and people led him to donate the structure.
He noted that development thrives in a situation where security of lives and property are given priority, saying this could only be done by chasing hoodlums away from the environment.
Amudipe said government alone cannot provide the necessity and called on the well meaning in society to use their wealth in developing their immediate environment.
He explained that the motorcycle donated along with the building will allow for easy patrol of the security agents around WESCO Estate and neighbouring communities.
