Polls Shift: Abia govt warns trouble makers

By Anayo Okoli

UMUAHIA— FOLLOWING the shift of this month’s polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abia State government, yesterday, warned those planning to protest against the commission in Aba to desist or incur its wrath.

The government told politicians behind the planned protest to steer clear of Aba and, indeed, the whole of Abia State, stressing that security agencies had been put on the alert.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Theodore Orji, Charles Ajunwa, the government said though the constitution allowed freedom of speech and association, they should be applied responsibly.

“In as much as the 1999 Constitution (as amended) allows for freedom of speech, association and movement, these unpatriotic politicians should not use Aba as base for perpetrating their evil intentions thereby portraying Aba as where anything goes.”
