ABUJA – Head, Media and Publicity of the Buhari Support Organization, BSO, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, yesterday, warned that Nigeria would be doomed should President Goodluck Jonathan be allowed to rule for another four years.
Maduekwe who spoke to Vanguard in Abuja also stated Jonathan deceived the Igbo people of the south east by adding “Azikiwe”, a name he adopted from the first President of Nigeria, late Dr. Nnmadi Aizikwe, a revered Igbo man to his names.
According to him, the promise of building a second Niger bridge in Anambra state by the president administration which it never realized was very ridiculing to the Igbos.
He also stated that the case of insecurity has clearly brought out the incompetence in Jonathan.
He said: “If Jonathan is allowed to remain for the next 4 years, I am sorry, we probably may not have a country because we have lost much under him. In 13 or 14 local government areas of this country, alien flags are being flown by people we do not know. It is irreconcilable. As a former member of the House of Representatives who was Chairman, Committee on Defence, I definitely know the capacity of our military. I know what our military can do.
“But the commander in chief currently is not providing that political will to enable our military to do things the way they have been known in the past. Leaving Jonathan there in the next 4 years spells doom for Nigeria and God will not allow it to happen because everybody now has seen it. There is no body in the north east that has not lost either a brother, cousin or relative.
“Nobody in Igbo land will say that he has not lost a friend or relative because Igbos are widely traveled. So, if you ask me the people who are suffering more from the insurgency, it is the people from the south east. When you remove the internally Displaced persons from the area, the next group of people that have suffered untold hardship are Igbos. So, there is no way they will continue to suffer for Jonathan when their platform for economic prosperity is being thrown to the winds.
“Igbo have been hoodwinked because President Goodluck Jonathan chose to put “Azikiwe” to his name. So, Igbos felt this is another Azikiwe that is coming. So, let us give him all the support. But what have we really benefitted? Let’s start with the Second Niger Bridge. It pains me when our people chase shadows. Second Niger bridge is not an Igbo bridge. It is a federal national asset.
“But Jonathan is making it to appear as if it is an Igbo bridge. Now, let me tell you, when a facility like that is build and it is tolled, what percentage of people are going to be passing through it and paying the tolls? It will be the Igbos that will be passing through this bridge and paying the fees.
“So, at the end you will find out that the cost of building that bridge, 85 to 90% of it would have been paid by Igbos. So, why are we jumping up? Assuming there is a challenge tomorrow in Bakasssi and the Nigerian army wants to move hardware from second division in Ibadan to Calabar, they will pass through the Nigeria bridge. So, Niger bridge is not an Igbo bridge. So, that this why I said that our people have been hoodwinked.
Maduekwe further said that the presidency of General Mohammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo who are the presidential and vice presidential candidates of All Progressives Congress, APC in the Febuary 14 general election would benefit the Igbo.
“My people, the Igbos will benefit tremendously from Buhari/Osinbajo ticket. By God’s grace, come February 14 when APC wins the elections, two things will happen, Buhari/Osinbajo ticket will bring about a level playing field, transparency and accountability”, he said.
On the controversy trailing the academic records of his principal, Maduekwe described it as propaganda against the person and political ambition of Buhari.
He however expressed happiness that the Nigeria army has eventually opened up on the matter.
“It is propaganda. Just as it has been reported, the army has said they have the credentials of the General,” he said.
