OYO 2015: Aggrieved aspirants close ranks with Folarin

By Ola Ajayi

IBADAN—SOME aggrieved chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party who initially opposed the emergence of former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin as the party’s governorship candidate have agreed to work for the success of the party in the 2015 election.

This indication emerged yesterday at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the state party’s secretariat as notable chieftains of the party attended the party.

This came just as the PDP governorship candidate said the letter sent by Independent National Electoral Commission to the National Chairman of the party would not threaten his status as the party’s candidate in the state.

The letter dated December 9, 2014 and signed by secretary to the commission, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, made reference to a suit instituted by Adelowo Aremu against the PDP.

The letter said that the court had restrained the commission from accepting, recognising or treating as nominated candidates of the party any candidate who did not emerge in accordance with the order of the court.

Folarin said: “There is nothing wrong with INEC letter to PDP chairman. It is like an electric company sending a bill to a customer and adding under the bill that if you have paid, you can disregard the letter. That is my interpretation to the letter. Nobody has told you what corrective measure the party has taken to neutralise that action. INEC will be coming up with the revised list of the states that are okay and the ones with K-leg in the next couple of days. We shall wait and see if Oyo State will be part of it. It is not just about me but about all other candidates of the party in Oyo State.’’

To him, the defection of Otunba Alao-Akala and others would not affect the fortune of the party in the election.

You’re bad news, Oyo APC tells Folarin

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Oyo State chapter, has described the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 general elections as depicting a bad news in the politics of the state which the people would always loathe to hear, regardless of the manner of its presentation.

In its reactions to an interview which Folarin granted yesterday, Oyo APC’s Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, said that the former Senate Leader had further compounded his credibility problem in the polity by exposing himself as an unrepentant desperado and master of double speak.

“In the said interview, Sen. Folarin revealed how Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s sense of justice and fairness saved him from the brink of life imprisonment or jaw of death which he faced while defending a celebrated murder case prior to latter’s assumption of office. On the other hand, the same Folarin claimed that the governor was a non-performer, ‘’ Sadare said
