UIMGA doles out scholarships again

The University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates’ Association (UIMGA) said it has spent over N5million on scholarship scheme since the programme commenced. This year’s award ceremony which took place on the 15th June, 2014 at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque was witnessed by members of the Association, some members of the university community, including beneficiaries smiling home with thousands of naira in scholarship.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Saka Adewumi, President of the group,   stated that the scholarship scheme came into existence as part of the resolutions reached at the Education Summit organised by the Association in 2015 adding that 38 students from various Universities comprising of two Ph.D, five M.Sc. and 21 undergraduate students have benefited from the scheme.

Also speaking at the occasion, the General Secretary of the group, Shamsideen Adewusi,pointed out that over N5million have so far been expended on the scheme.

In a lecture titled: “Zakat: Tool for Educational Development”, Dr. Uthman Ibrahim of Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, emphasised the need for all Muslims at the helm of affairs in the country to show more commitment to the education of the Youth.

Cheques were later distributed to twenty beneficiaries of the scheme. Students from various Universities in the country including the University of Ibadan, University of Ado-Ekiti, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Federal University of Technology Minna and Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto among others benefited from the scheme.

The chairman of the Scholarship Committee; Alhaji Abdulahi Adelakun expressed appreciation to individuals who have contributed to the scheme.
