Democracy Day: Gaidem calls for prayers, reflection

By Ndahi Marama

Damaturu — Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has called on the people to offer prayers for the restoration of peace and unity in the state.

Gaidam spoke against the backdrop of the lingering insecurity of lives and property occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East, during the Democracy Day celebrations in the state, yesterday.

He noted that this year’s celebration came at a time of great uncertainty among many Nigerians about the future of the nation, in relation to public safety and security.

In a statement signed, yesterday, by his Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, Gaidam said: “At this time of great loss, Gaidem’s thoughts and those of his government are with the grieving families. And, like many other incidents before it, Buni-Yadi is once again a reminder of the serious threats posed to our collective security by Boko Haram and the need for the entire country to come together to address them.

”The governor urges the people of Yobe State, as he does at every possible opportunity, to trust in the Almighty God and to continue to pray in homes, mosques and churches for divine deliverance from the myriad challenges that we face as a nation.

“The governor has also urged the people not to waver in their support for our security and law enforcement agents. With prayers, support to security agents and communal vigilance, the prevailing security challenges will be met and addressed.”

The governor however, assured the people of the state that his administration would remain focussed on its goal of improving their living standards by building on the modest progress made so far in the areas of healthcare delivery, education, housing, roads construction, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, among others in spite of the security challenges facing the state.
