Delta North senatorial leaders have called on their delegates to the national conference to reject any proposal for creation of new states that will put the old Midwest region at a disadvantage position in restructuring the country.
Spokesman of Anioma Economic Group, Mr. MacAnthony Ndukaeze, said the group was worried by the low profile performance of their delegate to the confab who was selected by the state governor to represent the Anioma area at the ongoing national conference.
Ndukaeze, in a statement in Lagos, said: “The time has come for the former deputy governor to stand up and speak on the pertinent issue of marginalisation and equity in Delta North which forms the Anioma nation in Delta State.
”We have watched with unease, the taciturn attitude of the former governor on the issues that are pertinent to the Anioma nation and have no other opportunity than to raise our voice on the pains that we feel today in the Nigerian project.”
In a related development, the former Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state, Mr. John Efianya, said: “We welcome the disposition of the confab delegates to the creation of additional states in the South Eastern states, to redress the lopsidedness of the 36 states structure foisted on the country by the military dictators, but we expect that this would not amount to redressing one imbalance with another imbalance and endemic injustice.”
He said any restructuring of the country that leaves “the old Mid West region with the existing two states would “be unfair and unjust since the other regions of the country have gained considerably in terms of creating more states from the old regional blocs.”
