SMC-PAU wins Hackathon

School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University (SMC-PAU) beats other teams with an average score of 10.41 to win at the maiden Nigeria edition of Hackthon (GEN Editors Lab programme) which was sponsored by Google and organised by Global Editors Network, GEN, in conjunction with Vanguard Newspapers.

The event addresses the need for more collaborative innovation in newsrooms. This season there are 20 national Hackdays around the world leading to the grand Editors Lab Hackdays finals at the GEN Summit in Barcelona in June 2014.

Other top leading teams at the competition are Vanguard (10.15), Television Continental, TVC (9.93), University of Lagos, UNILAG (9.83) and Channels Television with an average score of 9.73.

The event addresses the need for more collaborative innovation in newsrooms. This season there are 20 national Hackdays around the world leading to the grand Editors Lab Hackdays Final at the GEN Summit in Barcelona in June 2014.

Meanwhile, other teams that participated were Daily Trust, Leadership, The Nation, The Nigerian Tribune, Tell news-magazine, The News, The Sun newspapers and Cool FM.

By this result, the team from SMC-PAU are to represent the country at the international two-day final Hackathon at the GEN Summit holding between June 11 and 13, in Barcelona, Spain.
