ABUJA — SENATE President, David Mark, has cautioned the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, to ensure that the current registration for and issuance of national identity cards to Nigerians do not fail like similar attempts in the past.
Senator Mark, who expressed disappointment with previous projects, warned that “we must emphasis efficiency this time.
“We do not want another white elephant project. All we want are positive results and not the woes of why it failed.”
He spoke when the management team of NIMC, led by its Director-General, Mr. Chris Onyemenam visited him yesterday for briefing on the launching of the new project billed for today in Abuja.
Mark insisted that all the bottle necks that bedevilled the past exercises must be cleared to ensure the success of the new project.
He noted that there was no doubt about the importance of the project, but said “my worry is about its effective implementation and continuity.”

The Senate President, therefore, counseled the commission to employ state-of-the-art technology to get it right in a manner that it would be sustainable even for generations yet unborn.
Senator Mark enjoined the commission to liaise with other agencies of government such as the National Population Commission, NPC, and Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, to avoid duplications and ultimately save cost.
