DESOPADEC has impacted on Isoko community, says rep

By FESTUS AHON

UGHELLI— COMMISSIONER representing Isoko ethnic nationality on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Mr Joseph Ogeh, weekend, said the commission has impacted on the community in terms of infrastructural development, human capital development, and peace and security.

Ogeh said; “Since the assumption of duty by the new board, no community in Isoko land can say they do not have one or two projects. Within the period so many projects that were abandoned have been resuscitated and completed because of the payment system that the board adopted.

“So most of the contractors who had lost hope in DESOPADEC now have more confidence in the commission. Projects that were ongoing have been completed.” On the accusation from certain quarters that the commission was slow, Ogeh said “it is not true that the commission is slow to action; in the 2012 budget, projects that were recently awarded are already 60-70% nearing completion.

“In Isoko some of the projects nearing completion are six classrooms block and  teachers office at Erowha primary school, Erowha in Isoko South Local Government Area, Sandcrete wall fencing and security post at Oyede Grammar School, Oyede, installation of 12.5kva sound proof generator at Owhelogbo General Hospital Owhelogbo, Solar Water Project at Ofagbe and others too numerous to mention.

“All the projects have been properly distributed in Isoko land. I therefore call on Isoko people to ensure that there is peace in their communities, which is the only factor that enables development.
