Doping results of the 18th National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012 are out and two athletes (names withheld) are said to have ran foul of the doping rules.
National doping officer, Femi Ayorinde confirmed the development on Friday stating that inquiries will be made to find out why the athletes violated the rules.
“The doping results are out and two athletes have tested positive. We are going to find out from them why they took the banned substances. We want to know if they took it for medical purposes or they took it to enhance their performances”.
“Will make our findings public, after these investigations are concluded,” Dr. Ayorinde said adding those affected will definitely lose their medals.
Athletics sources disclosed that one of the athletes involved won a medal in the women 100m final. And officials of the State, which she represented, have pressed the panic button. Delta topped the overall medals table with most of its medals coming from swimming and traditional sports. River State came second on the log, but it dominated the athletics event.
