Tiola's Take

A special farewell

Scouring through the papers the other day reading up on the latest calamity that mankind had chosen to inflict on themselves, I came upon a rather disturbing story.

The newspaper report alleged that the Egyptian People’s Assembly,EPA are attempting to enact a law which will make it possible for husbands to have sex with their dead wives for up to six hours after their death… .

The legalisation of necrophilia..? Wow! I can only imagine how complex and time consuming legislation must be and of all the issues to deal with this was one of them?? Shagging rights with a corpse?! And they say we are messed up! I wish I was privy to the idea and the debates it must have raised.

Then I’d like to meet the man whose reaction, upon hearing of the demise of his wife, is having an erection. What, you didn’t work her enough in life so you must be sure to get every last penny’s worth in the last few hours while the body is still warm…? Ugh! My skin crawls at the thought. And that’s just on the surface. Only God knows the spiritual undertones.

Female activists in the country who are rightly in an uproar have described the idea as the undermining the status of women; I think it reveals the diabolic and depraved thinking of some men.

According to the story they’ve even given it a fancy name: farewell intercourse law. Which aside from giving the men rights to a six-hour window for sexual romps with dead bodies, it would also lower the age of marriage for a woman to 14 and rid her of rights to and education and employment… aha!

Perhaps therein lays the heart of the matter and the ‘true spirit’ of the law. An educated woman who is empowered is not likely to be party to paedophilia. Then, is not a far leap from paedophilia to necrophilia… it probably happens all the time without them even realising it. That’s probably how the blasted law was thought up in the first place!

It’s not enough to use and abuse her in life. They had to come with more creative ways to sustain the desecration of womanhood even in death. A special farewell indeed!

Since God instructed Adam to ‘dominate’ in the Garden of Eden, man has considered himself ruler of all he surveyed. Extreme traits of this characteristic are found in people like Idi Amin and Hitler. The world has gone mad and seems tilted on its axis.

Just when you think you’ve heard it all something more bizarre comes along. Society is becoming more and more depraved and what’s worse is when evil men disguised as leaders are in the position to couch it all in socio-political legalese.

I hope this is one of those times they’d come out to say that they were taken out of context or that it was an outright lie… The alternative is too scary too contemplate.
