Why access to land will continue to remain exclusive… – Developer

For prospective home owners in Lagos and other states of the federation, access to land will continue to remain a big problem. This is because the state government which is the custodian of state land sees it as an asset through which to make money without an input to it, hence it claims ownership of land all over the state.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Redbrick Homes International Ltd, developers of Amen Estate located on Eleko Beach Road, Off Lekki-Epe Expressway, Mr. Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi made this known at the weekend during an interactive session with property journalists in his resident at the highbrow estate.

Mr. Gbadamosi who added that huge charges by the government on documentation on land transactions which is indicative of corruption in the system makes access to land in the state much more difficult for prospective home owners to acquire, pointing out that the issue of amount of time it takes to get approval process is another kettle of fish.

According to him, “this is because the government sees the process as a source of making money without adding value to the land. This also explains why rents in some places in Lagos are so high. This is so because by the time you put together the high cost of land, charges on land transactions, charges on approval process and cost of construction, the cost of rent must go up.
