The Super Falcons will depart the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja this morning for Nigeria’s Eastern neighbour, Cameroon to battle for the last ticket for the London 2012 Olympics against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon this Thursday.
The Nigerians won the first leg 2-1 in Abuja and a slip by the Nigerian girls in Yaounde could spell out doom for Nigerian football.
Media officer of the senior women national football team, Henrietta Ukaigwe has assured that the team will come out triumphant in the weekend clash because they were not under any pressure. “We are not under any pressure as we will not allow what happened to the Super Eagles bother us.We are good to go,” Ukaigwe said, when asked about the level of preparedness of the players. “We have a squad that can deliver.”
The former President of Female Football Interest Group remarked that the Super Falcons had been the only team that hardly disappoints. “Women football teams in this country have always delivered. Except for the non-qualification for the All Africa Games, the women have never failed to qualify for any major tournament since the inception of women football in Africa.”
Henrietta said she was not undermining the status of the Lionesses as reigning All Africa Games champions but was sure the Echaria Uche tutored Falcons will not disappoint.
“We know their strength. Most of their players ply their trade in Nigeria and apart from Ghana, they have been our main rivals for sometime now. We know them.”
