BY AbdulSalam Muhammad
KANO—THERE was wild celeration in Kano, Tuesday, following reports that the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a notice of appeal by the Lagos State Government against an earlier decision of the High Court which  threw out Major Hamza Al-Mustapha’s attempted murder case.

Earlier, a High Court presided over by Justice Olokoba was said to have dismissed the case against Al-Mustapha, former chief security officer , CSO, to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha that he and three others attempted to kill the Publisher of The Guardian newspaper, Mr. Alex Ibru.

Thousands of the Kano residents thronged the Lamido Crescent residence of Major Al-Mustapha to register their support for the embattled former CSO, even as the family’s spokesman, Hadi Al Mustapha told the crowd that the road to freedom is not yet over, as another case against his elder brother comes up on the November 10, and enjoined them to intensify their prayers for his release.

He described the Appeal Court’s decision as a welcome development, since, ‘’it underlines the fact that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.’’
