Avis plans haulage services

AVIS Nigeria, has concluded plans to add haulage business to its business in Nigeria. Disclosing this to selected members of the press in Lagos recently, the Managing Director, Mr. Kolawole Ogunbajo said that the company plans to go into haulage business by 2014 to consolidate its expansion agenda across the country.

Already the company is into rent-a-car venture and fleet management which have been well received in the country.

The Avis Nigeria boss noted that the company has embarked on a comprehensive research on the haulage business, adding that the development is expected to bring a lot of innovations to the sector, like never before.

According to him, the company presently has over 500 vehicles in its fleet, which it renews after every two years.

Assuring customers of quality service at all time, Ogunbajo explained that they have a partnership with the Avis South African in the area of information technology designed to boost the operation of Avis through improved human capacity and workshop services.

Adding that plans are also underway to build a well equipped workshop in collaboration with a private firms for prompt service of its vehicles outside Lagos.

Ogunbanjo added that the company intend to be a major provider of fleet management service to most companies in Nigeria, adding that the rent-a-car has provided the required platform.

He explained that to sustain the company’s quality service, incentives are in place to regularly motivate staff.

AVIS Nigeria, operates from more than twenty-six business points includes Lagos, Edo, Delta, Kano, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Enugu, Imo, Bayelsa, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, among others.

Ogunbanjo explained that the service which is targeted at corporate organisations has recorded huge success as clients taking advantage of the fleet management service cuts across banking, insurance, oil and gas, manufacturing, government agencies, telecommunications and the Nigerian Armed Forces, among others.

He attributed the company’s success to a vision of what he identified as building the best and fastest growing company within the business of car rental through continuous investment in its network, leading technology and, most importantly, its people.

According to him, “Fleet Management is easier compared to car rentals. We have fleet supervisors attached to every 15 vehicles at any point. The supervisors are responsible for co-ordinating, controlling and organising movement of the vehicles.”
