Nigeria’s search for medals at the ongoing 10th All Africa Games as the competition begins in Taekwondo today.

Team Nigeria is here with a contingent of eight Taekwondoists and chief coach of the Nigerian team, Osita John Egwin told Sports Vanguard in Maputo that “our mission is to clear the whole gold medals at stake.”

Egwin said the team, made up of eight men and eight women were psychologically ready for the onslaught and promised they will not disappoint Nigerians.

Realistically, the coach said of the sixteen gold medals at stake, Nigeria is aiming to pick at least five. “We should win at least five gold,” Osita said confidently.

He said their target was to improve on what the team achieved in Algiers 2007 where they won 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

He however acknowledged the threat posed by countries like Senegal, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Lesotho and Mali but was quick to add, “they too should be afraid of us.”
