ADO-EKITI—Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ekiti State, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to resign if he cannot address the security challenges facing the country.
Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, who spoke in Ado Ekiti weekend, wondered why the problem of bombings and other security threats were becoming impossible for the president to address.
He described as belated President Jonathan’s directive to the Chief of Defence Staff , Air Marshall Oluseyi Petirin to take over the security in Jos. He said: “The situation in Jos and other parts of the country, if care is not taken, could be the beginning of the end. Jonathan should prove us wrong by taking fundamental steps to address the security threats. If he can’t fix the problems within six months, he should quit. President Jonathan seems incapable of handling the hydra headed problems in Nigeria, the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, is incapable of protecting the lives of Nigerians.”
According to him, the 13 years of the PDP’s rule has not only done a lot of damage to the corporate existence of the people of the country , but has dragged the nation to the precipice owing to its incompetence in handling the social-economic challenges facing the nation.
He added: “The problems facing the nation can only be solved through the convocation of Sovereign National Conference. The 1999 constitution does not reflect the yearnings and aspiration of Nigeria.
“Every effort at reviewing the constitution will not only amount to scratching the surface but will continue to be colossal waste of time, because the fundamentals of various challenges facing the nation will not be addressed by the review. We should settle down and negotiate how we want to be governed; the 1999 constitution was an imposition.”
