Customs suspends 14 officers

GODWIN ORITSE
ABUJA—Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, has suspended 14 officers for fraudulent release of vehicles, while their salaries were stopped.

Customs’ Comptroller-General, Mr. Dikko Inde Abdullahi, said this in Abuja.

Ten of the officers were of the ranks of Deputy Comptrollers and Assistant Controllers while the rest were in the Inspectorate cadres.

The suspended officers were involved in the alleged fraudulent release of vehicles and other goods at Tincan Island and Apapa ports.

Dikko said: “At this stage of our effort to transform the Service, we cannot tolerate illegal conduct of the nature exhibited by those officers.

”I am disappointed that despite our efforts to turn-round the service, some senior officers are still found wanting.”

He added that the suspension of the officers was expected to send a signal to all officers and men, that the new Customs has no place for those who through their activities are considered “revenue and security risks to the nation.”
