Asaba-DELTA State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has inaugurated a four-man Truth/Reconciliation Committee, headed by Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, to bring sanity to the party.
Members of the committee are: Mr. Young Igbrude, former Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly; Mr. Terry Noah, a former commissioner in the state. They were all present at the ceremony except the fourth member of the committee, a female, whose identity was not disclosed.
After inauguration, the members went into a closed door meeting.
Chairman of the party, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, tasked the committee members to live up to expectation given the daunting challenges ahead of them.
Among the terms of reference given the committee are: identify individual members and groups who by their actions have undermined the smooth running of the party in the state and make adequate recommendations; identify the immediate and remote causes of the dwindling electoral fortunes of the party in Delta State compared to her previous robust electoral positions.
The committee is also expected to identify the immediate and remote causes of the perceived disenchantment within party members so it can arrest the prevailing trend that some members now find it difficult to respect the party’s constitutional provisions.
